Insurance Cover for Degree Students
Students of PIRAMK University of Applied Sciences are insured in
Pohjantähti Mutual Insurance Company.
The statutory accident insurance is valid in practical lessons forming a part
of the curriculum or degree requirements, during participation in competence
tests and unsalaried practical training and during immediate journeys from the
educational institution or housing to an outside practical training or
on-the-job learning place assigned by the educational institution and back
(unsalaried practical training period).
The statutory accident insurance is valid all around the world. As far as
labour policy education is concerned, the insurance also covers journeys to the
educational institution and theory lessons.
Personal accident insurance is a supplementary insurance valid during theory
and physical exercise lessons as well as the daily journeys to the educational
institution. The supplementary insurance is valid all around the world. The
insurance does not cover leisure time accidents and traffic accidents.
During practical training, the employer is primarily in charge of injuries and
damages caused to third parties in work during working hours also when the
practical training period is unsalaried and there is no employment relationship
between the student and practical training place.
PIRAMK University of Applied Sciences has a valid extension to the liability
insurance on students´ unsalaried practical training in Finland. It is
secondary to the practical training place´s own insurances.
PIRAMK University of Applied Sciences has a separate insurance for
students´ blood and pinprick accidents.
In case of an accident, the student acquires the insurance certificate from the
educational institution and fills in the accident report to the insurance
company. The insurance certificate can be obtained from the study office.
The insurance certificate gives the possibility to use private clinic services.

Insurance Cover for Outgoing Exchange
Students/Trainees
Accident insurances are valid as in Finland. PIRAMK University of Applied
Sciences does not have travel or luggage insurance for students. It is worth
taking the travel insurance for additional insurance cover. The
traveller´s insurance covers for example treatment expenses caused by
travel sickness.
During practical training abroad, students are insured in the practical
training place and on the journeys from the housing to the practical training
place and back.
NB! In practical training abroad, employers do not necessarily have the
fore-mentioned liability insurance (for injuries and damages caused to third
parties) and thus it is important that the student settles the insurance
matters particularly carefully before the practical training period abroad with
the international coordinator of the unit or with other international affairs
personnel in PIRAMK University of Applied Sciences.
Music students take care of their musical instrument insurances themselves.
Members / student members of Union of Health and Social Care Professionals have
a valid legal expenses and third party liability insurance both in work and
practical training abroad. Student members of Union of Health and Social Care
Professionals also have an accident insurance.

Insurances for the Clinical Training of
Health Care Studies
In clinical training, the liability insurance of the clinical training place is
primary because the students are supervised and guided by the people in the
clinical training place. Insurance of PIRAMK University of Applied Sciences is
only secondary. For example, if a student breaks an expensive device in
clinical training, the insurance of the clinical training place is the primary
and if the insurances of the clinical training place do not cover the damage,
compensation can be applied from the insurances of PIRAMK University of Applied
Sciences.
