Crisis Work

Crisis work means the immediate assistance work, mental first aid after sudden and surprising trauma situations. These situations may include sudden death, serious accidents, suicide, suicide attempt, violence situations, fire or other traumatic events.

If a student of PIRAMK University of Applied Sciences is subjected to a crisis situation, the student should start its disentanglement with his/her own teacher tutor. He/she will guide the student to discuss the situation with the crisis group of the unit and if necessary to the expert services of student health care.

Student health care psychologists provide guidance, counselling and brief psychotherapy to restore and maintain the student´s ability to study and/or to work. In students´ crisis situations, the aim is to organise help immediately. Students are sent to consultation either by a doctor or public health nurse. The most common reasons for visits are depression, anxiety, traumatic experiences and crises in life situations.

Crisis work can be seen as part of mental labour protection in the community.
In PIRAMK University of Applied Sciences, the aim of crisis work is to support the members of the community so that trauma situations do not cause extra load and the members of the community can consider that they have gained competent and respectful mental first aid when they have needed it.
