International flights to Tampere arrive at Tampere-Pirkkala Airport (about 20 km from the city centre of Tampere) and flights to Helsinki at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport (about 20 km from the city centre of Helsinki). It is also possible to arrive in Helsinki by ferry from Estonia, Germany and Sweden. From Tampere-Pirkkala Airport there is a bus connection to the city centre, but only during the daytime (NOTICE! There are only few connections on weekends). A single ticket costs about 6 euros. The airport taxi to the city centre costs 12 euros (www.taksitampere.fi/booktaxi.html), normal taxi about 30 euros. For those landing at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport, there is a direct bus service available from the airport to Tampere city centre. Buses ("Express-line") leave from the front of the International terminal. A single ticket costs approximately 28-30 euros. You can also take the Finnair bus to the railway station in Helsinki, then the train to Tampere. Trains run nearly every daytime hour and a single ticket costs about 25-30 euros depending on the train selected. We recommend those landing at Helsinki to take the Express-line bus to Tampere. For those arriving in Turku by boat, there is a direct train service from Turku harbour. The journey from Helsinki or Turku to Tampere takes about two hours. There is also a train connection to Tampere from St. Petersburg and Moscow. You should change trains in Riihimäki.

There are good transportation connections from Tampere to the neighbouring towns. So if you are going to study in Ikaalinen, Mänttä or Virrat, you can travel there by bus.
