The title of the graduating students of Degree Programme in Tourism is Bachelor of Hospitality Management. The degree is comparable with equivalent degrees in other EU countries. The extent of the Degree Programme in Tourism is 210 credits (cr) and the education lasts for 3.5 years.
Eligibility
Competences developed
In the Degree Programme in Tourism students will gain a wide special training in the different fields of tourism, focusing on congress studies and business. The aim is to provide students with abilities for working in demanding work tasks from customer services all the way to managerial level in tourism companies and societies both in Finland and abroad.
Professional status
The graduated students have the skills needed in the planning, practice follow-up and development of tourism. In the career path, their titles may be for example sales manager, marketing manager, reception manager, resort manager, travelling secretary and manager and travelling entrepreneur.
Structure of degree programme and key contents
The degree programme consists of core studies, professional studies, which include practical training to enhance professional skills, bachelor’s thesis and elective studies.
The most important study modules and focus areas are core studies and professional studies, congress studies and business, leadership and entrepreneurship, communication skills and tourism research, language and cultural studies and practical training in Finland or abroad.
Teaching methods
The language of instruction is English and the teaching methods are lectures, seminars, workshops, project works, assignments made for companies and company visits.

Learning outcomes and aims of programme / academic year
After the first study year, the student knows factors affecting and regulating the tourism environment and tourism business and can work in diverse cultural environments. She/he thinks in a service oriented manner and understands the necessity of profitability in business.
After the second-year studies the student knows the congress and conference services and can work in diverse multicultural services situations. She/he can make profitable choices in business and maintain the service standard.
During the third study year the student develops her/his management and leadership skills, deepens his/her knowledge in the professional studies and learns to make strategic choices. The student is able to participate in the production and development of tourism services.
During optional and elective studies, students can complement their knowledge and skills as they consider necessary. Students are offered possibilities e.g. to develop their language skills and increase their knowledge and skills in matters supporting the studies.
