SAMOK

National Union of Finnish Polytechnic Students - SAMOK is a national interest and service organisation independently administered by polytechnic students. SAMOK is the outlook promoter of the polytechnic students. Through SAMOK, the polytechnic students are represented to state administration and co-operation partners. SAMOK also provides various services and discounts for the students. SAMOK is for the student.

SAMOK was founded in 1996. Despite the short history SAMOK has consolidated its position and now represents over 60 000 polytechnic students. The members of SAMOK consist of 30 student associations, which are run by students themselves, and the 3 founder unions of SAMOK. Thus SAMOK does not have individual members. According to the so-called dual model, the Finnish higher education system consists of two parallel sectors, the university sector and the polytechnic sector. In comparison with the university sector, polytechnic students enrolled in an institution are not automatically members of the corresponding student association, but the membership is voluntary.

The Finnish name for SAMOK is “Suomen Ammattikorkeakouluopiskelijayhdistysten Liitto – SAMOK ry”. Internet page: www.samok.fi/english
