The bachelor’s thesis demonstrates the knowledge and skills students have acquired in the course of their polytechnic studies. The extent of the bachelor´s thesis is 15 credits and a separate grade of it is given on the degree certificate. Participation in seminars and guidance is part of the bachelor´s thesis process. The bachelor’s thesis process also includes a maturity test to give evidence of knowledge on the subject area of the thesis.
The thesis is to be done on a topic that is related to the student’s degree programme / option and supports the student’s growth into an expert in his/her special field. The thesis has to conform to the needs of working life and develop professional practices, knowledge and skills.
The general objective of the bachelor´s thesis is to familiarise students with independent information acquisition, critical analysis of information, problem-solving, reasoning and argumentation skills, study and development of work practices and clear written and oral communication. With the help of the thesis, students can deepen their special expertise and relations with working life.
The bachelor´s thesis is usually started at the end of the second study year or at the beginning of the third year. Bachelor´s thesis topics can be acquired from practical training periods in working life, from teachers or otherwise. The diverse projects of R&D and consulting services also offer bachelor´s thesis subjects.
